PROGRAM NOTE
These five short colorful pieces were written for guitarist Peter Curtis, who performed them several times during our tenure at Indiana University. Often, compositions take on a particular flavor or style when they are written for friends. Both Peter and I are classical and jazz players, and so these guitar pieces are informed by elements of both styles. Throughout the five movements, twelve-tone melodies and careful counterpoint mingle with diatonic chord progressions and jazz forms.
